Straw by Straw is a start-up from Amsterdam that strives for a sustainable world in which plastic disposable products are replaced with environmentally friendly alternatives. Every day we use billions of plastic straws worldwide. This can be 100% more natural, right?

These straws are a residual product of the maize harvest. After the maize harvest, the farmers have to prepare their soil/soil for the next harvest. Then they do it by growing something new, often different types of grains/straw.
So to feed their soil for the next corn crop, they choose to grow straw. This can be sold as straw for the stable, but now also for drinking straws. In this way it is a by-product of the maize harvest.

After harvesting, the reed is collected by farmers and then dried, cleaned and cut by hand. No chemicals or bleaching agents are used during this process. Because they grow in nature, they differ in diameter between 3 – 6 millimeters. In this way the natural characteristics are preserved.
